So. Harry Potter.
(I pretty much assume ya’ll have read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling. If you haven’t, I’m sorry if this doesn’t make sense. Consider reading it? It is fun. As long as you don’t think too hard.)

It came up in conversation this week (well… not this week any more because I am writing this in the past) like, three times, plus of course all the times it came up in Writer’s Group. (Our writer’s group has a thing about Harry Potter. I don’t even know. They just really really like it.)
So I read the first one again!
And you know what? I decided that I like the Harry Potter series because it is whimsical. I mean, the world doesn’t really make sense. And when it does make sense it is usually because you used fridge logic and it is super dark now. But it’s so much fun! I like that they all have owls, and the owls just know where to go, and also that they all come in through the ceiling at breakfast to delver the mail! And that the dorms are hidden all around the castle behind portraits, and that vital components of the door mechanism (the people in the portraits) just wander off at night to have tea! I think it’s fun.
And yeah, its silly that there is a magic school that only magic people know about and it is (as far as I can tell) the only one for thousands of miles, but who cares! Magic schools are awesome!

Also, I’d never realized that that Grindelwald guy who is such a big deal in book seven totes is mentioned in book one on Dumbledore’s chocolate frog card right there in chapter six. That is rocking foreshadowing. Man! Skills-To-Practice!

So I’m trying to decide if I want to read the second one again.
I think I’ve read it like four times. I read them all just a few years ago, in like a week, which I think says something about J.K Rowling’s ability to compel me, right? But I’m kinda scared to. I hate the part where everyone thinks Harry is doing it! And the part where everyone things Hagrid is doing it! And the whole book is so sad and dark. 😦
Of course, the third one, which I think was my favorite, has the part with the Whomping Willow, where Ron and Harry are late and miss the train! I HATED that part! That was awful. (That was the third one, right?)

But I guess every book has parts in it that I don’t enjoy. Everywhere that embarrassing things happen to the main character, for a start. Or stressful ones. I’ve been reading Lois McMaster Bujold’s The Curse of Chalion for like… three months now because I can only read like, ten pages at a time before I get too scared and have to take a week long break.
…Okay, I might be feeling kind of fragile right now. (The Curse of Chalion is amazing so far. I’m just super worried a bunch of horrible things are going to happen to the main character! A bunch of bad stuff happened in backstory, so I just want him to have a happy life! D:)

Yup. That’s what I have to say about that.

P.S. Soooo….. After I wrote this I gave in and started reading the second one, and it totally wasn’t the third one it was the second one!!!! It was just about as gut wrenchingly embarrassing as I remembered. But then I got to the part when Professor Lockheart things that Harry wants to be famous and oh my gosh I’d totally forgotten and it was horrible! Why is this book so full of terrible things!!! I can’t wait for the murders! So much less awful!
